Community Events at MSIgnite 2018

Microsoft Ignite 2018 has a huge line up of community events for the week, most taking place in Community Central.  Below is a compilation of the events I am aware of.  Find your community and be social!

Windows Server Community Social

When: Monday, 1:00p – 2:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Come to the dark side, the Windows Server team has cookies!  They’ll also be bringing along stickers and possibly a few special guests like Ned Pyle and Ben Armstrong.

Microsoft Ignite Welcome Reception

When: Monday, 5:30p – 7:30pm
Where: Exhibit Hall
Details: Kick off Ignite the right way with Monday’s welcome reception where you can chat with Microsoft experts, see demos, see old friends and make new ones over food and drinks.

PowerShell Community Social

When: Monday, 7:00p – 7:30p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Come have a drink and meet Jeffrey Snover and PowerShell MVPs like Jaap Brasser, Aleksandar Nikolic, and Aaron Nelson immediately following the welcome reception.

Data & AI Community Social

When: Tuesday, 9:00a – 10:00a
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Do you do that Voodoo?  Well you can at the Data & AI Community Social.  Eric Boyd and Rohan Kumar, along with MVPs Cathrine Wilhelmsen and Melody Zacharias will be there with Voodoo donuts and nitrogen cold brew coffee.

Microsoft Teams Community Social

When: Tuesday, 10:30a – 1:30p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Hang out with Laurie Pottmeyer (Skype for Business and Teams Community Lead) and other Microsoft  Teams enthusiasts and try smoothies from around the world.

SharePoint Community Selfie

When: Tuesday, 1:00p – 1:30p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Jump in the SharePoint community selfie with Jeff Teper.  If you want to be part of the family, meet by the MVP/RD wall in Community Central.

Kubernetes Community Social

When: Tuesday, 2:00p – 2:30p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Interested in Kubernetes?  Kubernetes co-founder Brendan Burns will be in Community Central with Nitrogen cold brew coffee ready to chat.

Infrastructure Community Social

When: Tuesday, 4:00p – 6:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Are you a fan of the Channel 9 series “Tuesdays with Corey“?  Come to the Infrastructure Community Social and hang out with Corey himself!

IAMCP Women In Techology Happy Hour

When: Tuesday, 5:00p – 6:00p
Where: Diversity in Tech Lounge Immersion Zone
Details: IAMCP Women In Technology & Allies happy hour event sponsored by Mercer Mackay, NetApp, and skykick.

Yammer 10th Birthday Happy Hour

When: Tuesday, 6:30p – 9:30p
Where: Itta Bena (9101 International Drive)
Details: Yammer is celebrating its 10th birthday and you are invited!  Only the first 200 attendees will be admitted so come early, and don’t forget your badge.

Identity Management Community Social

When: Wednesday, 11:15a – 12:15p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Have you heard the good news?  The Identity Management team has waffles! Check out the Identity Management team while piling on the toppings at this hot waffle bar!

Meet Exchange and Outlook!

When: Wednesday, 2:00p – 4:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: What’s better than meeting the famous crustacean, Squeaky Lobster, and Greg Taylor?  Celebrating SL’s birthday with cake and ice cream (assuming it isn’t fish flavored)!

Modern Desktop Community Social

When: Wednesday, 4:00p – 5:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Come grab some movie theater candy and hang out with a cast of MVPs including Alistair Pugin, Loryan Strant, & Tracy van der Schyff!  If you’re lucky, you may even get to meet Braam the Intern Sheep!

Microsoft 365 Security Community Social

When: Wednesday, 5:00p – 6:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: What is better than ice cold beer?  Not much, but what if you also get popcorn and the opportunity to network with experts in Microsoft 365 Security!

Windows Server Fan Appreciation Party

When: Wednesday evening, time TBA
Where: Location TBA
Details: The Windows Server team is throwing a party for its biggest fans…but you have to put in some work to get invited!  Start at the Windows Server & System Center area in the expo hall and ask for a punch card.  Once you are equipped with said card, you will want to visit 5 different areas and talk with the experts who will stamp your card.  Trade your 5 stamps for an invite to the party!  Get all the details on their blog!

Cloud for All Community Social

When: Thursday, 10:30a – 12:30p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Meet up with an amazing cast of characters over shaved ice.  Who knew IaaS was actually Ice as a Service?!?  Some faces you may see here include Mark Russinovich, and MVPs Alex Mang, Paula Januszkiewicz, Rik Hepworth, Greg Leonardo, & Magnus Martensson.

SharePoint Developer Meetup

When: Thursday, 3:00p – 4:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Meet with others in the SharePoint Framework community over a variety of mule cocktails. Moscow mules, London mules, Canadian mules, and my favorite the Kentucky mule!

Community Coffee Hour

When: Friday, 10:00a – 11:00a
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: By Friday you are gonna need more caffeine so swing by the Community Coffee Hour for VIP coffee service!

Microsoft Mechanics Community Social

When: Friday, 12:00p – 1:00p
Where: Community Central (OCCC West Hall)
Details: Wrap up the week in style with the Microsoft Mechanics crew. Bring your new friends and have a Bloody Mary and a little popcorn at this social event!
