Microsoft Teams Quick Tip #2 – Working With Channel Email Addresses

A handy trick to using Teams is sending information directly to a specific Channel via email.  By default, Channels do not have an email address though.

Adding an email address

Adding an email address to the Channel is as simple as clicking the ellipses (…) next to the Channel name, or just right-clicking on it and selecting Get email address

By clicking Advanced Settings, you will be able to decide who should be able to email this address:

Now that the address is added, emails can be sent to the Channel which is a great way to collect data right in your Team.  It is also a good way to drive conversation out of email, into the Team as part of your adoption strategy.

Help!  <insert thing> is happening and I need to change/remove the email address!

In some cases, you may want to no longer allow people to email a Channel that has previously been assigned an address.  Or maybe the address ended up on some spam list and you need to change it to something different.  Again, a few clicks and you’ll be set. Just navigate back to the Get email address prompt as you did earlier and select Remove email address to remove it.  If you want to change it, simply remove it and then add it back.
